Residents who owe the municipality will have limited services

Municipality stands its ground in ensuring that all residents pay for services.

BARBERTON – A month after the City of Mbombela Municipality sent out a stern warning to residents who fail to pay municipal services, they have taken drastic action to recoup the money.

It is reported that residents who owe the municipality, water pressure in their taps will be very low and their electricity will be limited.

“As a municipality, we have our credit control which will assist us to force people to pay their bills or debt. Those who owe us are going to receive limited services. To make an example, if a community member wants to buy R100 electricity, it is not going to happen, instead we are going to take half of the amount (R50) and place it in the services account, that is the only way we believe will help us to collect the money,”said spokesperson, Mr Joseph Ngala.

He added that those who are not willing to meet the municipality halfway in terms settling their bills will be completely blocked from accessing electricity.

“It is not our wish to shut them down completely, but there are situations where things are beyond our control which enforced us to go that route. They will not be able to buy electricity at all until they come forward and make arrangements with the municipality,” he said.
