Court official found guilty of fraud

He was caught and a case of fraud was opened.

A former employee of the Department of Justice has been found guilty of fraud. This follows after he manipulated the system and stealing an amount of R300 000 sending it to his family members.

Sipho Sibusiso Mnguni (37) was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment, of which five years are suspended, by Standerton Regional Court on Tuesday.

He was responsible for the paying of maintenance. “In 2011 while working at Bethal magistrate offices, he started defrauding the department.

In 2012 he was promoted to the Standerton Magistrate’s Court offices where he continued to commit fraud,” said Hawks spokesperson, Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi.

He was caught and a case of fraud was opened against him in Bethal.

“He was convicted and sentenced to eight years direct imprisonment by Bethal Magistrate Court on July 25. He was then sent to prison.
A second case was opened again in Standerton, and ten years of imprisonment were added,” she said.

“Fraud and corruption within the government remains a challenge, as the government is expected to deliver services to the community,” said Sekgotodi.

The provincial head of DPCI Mpumalanga, Major Gen Zodwa Mokoena, is issuing a stern warning to those involved in such activities.
“I appreciate the investigating officer for keeping his persistence until the accused was sentenced,” said Mokoena.
