Inmates ready for matric exams

As the matric examinations draw near, inmates at the Barberton Management Area are spending sleepless nights studying in preparation for the exams.

According to Thomas Myeni, the head of education at the centre, 26 offenders will write the examinations, which is an increase compared to last year.

“Eight of them are from the youth correctional centre and 18 from the maximum centre. They started preparing for the exams as soon as schools reopened to make sure they covered all the study material,” explained Myeni.

“Our educators worked tirelessly to ensure that the syllabus is completely covered. We worked extra hours, even on weekends, to make sure that we teach the offenders all they need to know,” he added.
