Storm causes havoc in Pienaar

PIENAAR – Car windows were broken and a famous church building’s roof was ripped off following a heavy storm in the Msogwaba area.

The newly built structure of the Holy Banner Church in Zion was ripped off its steel poles by a gusty winds, which also blew off the roof of the old structure, around 14:00 yesterday.

“Everything was deeply immersed in water,” explained Ms Busisiwe Tlou, the church’s public relations officer.

She added that the incident happened a few hours after a successful fund-raising service, attended by young and old. “No one was injured, but we are still shocked by what happened,” Tlou stated

Mr Joseph Ngala, spokesperson for the City of Mbombela, said he had learnt of car windows which were broken by the storm around Pienaar although a detailed report had not been received by the municipality so far.

“The municipality had not received a formal report of the storm damages,” he said.
