Young scientists represent Mpumalanga in the Eskom Science Expo

These young Einsteins have mastered scientific investigative methods, showing ingenuity, creativity and talent.

MBOMBELA – Learners from schools in the Ehlanzeni District will showcase 20 science expo projects in the ongoing International Science Fair (ISF) Eskom Expo for Young Scientists taking place in Birchwood Conference Centre in Boksburg this week.

Their participation in the national expo follows their outstanding performances at the Regional Eskom Expo for Young Scientists held in Mbombela on August 26.

“Gatherings of these brilliant minds have shown that the participants have huge potential to help South Africa address problems.

We had also seen an increase in the number of schools participating in the expo.
Last year there was a 16 per cent increase in participation. With this year’s strategy geared towards expansion in Ehlanzeni, particularly for rural and low-quintile schools, this number increased from 16 to 21 per cent,” said provincial coordinator, Bailey Nkuna.

“Increasing the participation of schools in the Eskom Expo is central to our long-term strategy, which is also a national initiative of government.

“It is here that we aim to increase participation in Greater exposure to science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation (STEMI) activities from a young age is a critical driver for transformation of our economy and the creation of a better world for all,” Nkuna added
