UPDATE: Law firm bomb threat a prank

The police have confirmed that a suspicious and anonymous package was found in the building.

The police have confirmed that a suspicious and anonymous package was found in the building fortunately it is not a bomb. “The package was opened and they found a pressure cooker. They opened it just to make sure that there was nothing inside.”

The employees have returned into the building. “They are currently searching if there is anything that looks suspicious in their offices. If they do not find anything we will then declare the building safe. The road is now opened,” he said.

Sniffer dogs from the K9 unit, bomb-disposal unit and rescue teams, are stationed at the Du Toit-Smuts and Partners, at the corner of Van Niekerk and Rothery streets, following a bomb threat.
According SAPS spokesperson Col Mtsholi Bhembe, who is at the scene, the building is barricaded and evacuated.

“A person called the office four times this morning informing the employees that there is a bomb in the building.
When he called for the first time the person who answered the phone thought it was a joke and ignored the caller.
The caller then phoned again until when he called for the fourth time they then decided to call the police. The fourth phone call made them realise they cannot take it lightly,” Bhembe said.
The building is currently being searched.
