Today is World Teacher’s Day, and Mpumalanga joined the rest of the world in honouring the role and importance of teachers in the classroom and society.
Celebrated annually on 5 October across the world, the day aims to raise awareness, understanding and appreciation for the contribution teachers make to education and development across the globe.
Teachers are the shining light of every society, for they always rise above the expected norm to mentor, inspire and bring hope to learners under trying circumstances.

“We should always salute teachers, because without them and their hard work, the world would going to be a dark place where ignorance, fear and poverty would reign supreme. Happy Teachers Day,” said MEC Regina Mhaule.
The department will convene the National Teaching Awards on October 20 at the Mbombela Stadium.
