Mashego is concerned about attacks of nurses

"No one in this country has a right to assault another individual when their demands are not met"

MBOMBELA- Mec of health, Mr Gillion Mashego has raised a serious concern regarding the increasing incidents of abuse and assault of health professionals.

This comes after nurses at Lebohang Community Health Center under Govan Mbeki Local Municipality were assaulted by members of the public.

This publication learnt that the whole drama unfolded when three people came to the centre, one of them was seeking medical attention and the other two were accompanying the patient.It is alleged that they demanded immediate attention whilst the nurses on duty were attending other patients.

When the nurses told them that they are still busy with other patients, the pair accompanying the patient started assaulting the nurses on duty.It is alleged that one of them slapped a female nurse and a male nurse.

Police arrived at the scene and calmed the situation.The assailants were taken out of the facility but no arrests were made.

“We cannot allow a situation where members of the public come into facilities and demand special treatment. We have many people who seek medical attention,” said Mashego.
