Process to identify crash victims complete

The process of identifying the victims of the R23 road crash has been completed.

The accident occurred on September 4 between Standerton and Balfour.
“Family members met with authorities today at the Evander Hospital where the bodies will be released.

The report was made available yesterday and their families were informed. Nine of the deceased are from Msinga in KwaZulu-Natal and one from Standerton,” said Joseph Mabuza, spokesperson for the department of safety, security and community liaison.

The impact of the crash sparked a fire and the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
“The process took longer as the bodies were burnt. The forensic investigation was conducted to ascertain the identity of the deceased,” said Mabuza.
