Unemployed youth demand elders to be fired in Kanyamazane

All entrances have been cleared in and out of Kanyamazane. No damages were done by the protesters and none of them was arrested.

This morning the residents of Kanyamazane barricaded roads with burning tyres and debris demanding employment opportunities.

Reliable sources told this publication that the strikers, mostly unemployed youth, were calling for the municipality to fire old individuals working in the local municipal offices in order to pave way for the young ones who are struggling due to unemployment issues in the area.

Traffic around the Kasi was slightly disturbed as entrances to and out of the area were blockaded.

Police from the local police station were visible to maintain order.

“All entrances have been cleared in and out of Kanyamazane. No damages were done by the protesters and none of them was arrested,” said Capt Jabu Ndubane, spokesperson for the Pienaar Cluster.
