Tonga SAPS warns community against police fraud

Members of the community are urged rather go pay any fines at the police station and make sure they are issued a receipt.

TONGA – Community members were urged not to pay any fines to the police officers patrolling on the streets.
This is after Tonga police station was informed that some members of the community who were arrested for minor crimes, like public drinking had paid their fines to officers on the streets,but didn’t receive any proof of payment.

 
Tonga Station Commander, Brig Velisiwe Mdaka, urged members of the community to rather go pay any fines at the police station and make sure they are issued a receipt.
‘’If any police officer demands that you pay fines to him in the street and you are not issued a legal proof of payment, the incident must be reported to the police station.’’

Mdaka also warned community members to never give out their bank account or personal details to anyone telephonically.
