RAF is saddened by the tragic death of 10 people in Standerton

After the victims burials, consultations will continue with the bereaved families to originate claims for loss of support for any dependents and qualifying heads of damages for the injured as stipulated in the RAF Act.

The Road Accident Fund (RAF) sends its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of 10 people who died in an accident on the R23 between Standerton and Balfour this morning.

RAF Acting Regional Manager, Oscar Mothle, said RAF staff will engage families of the deceased to facilitate funeral arrangements while providing advice about the RAF’s services.

“As is the case with accidents of such devastating proportions, we are in pain as the RAF family, but WE will do everything in our power to ease the emotional and financial burden of the survivors and victims’ families. Our team in Mpumalanga will work alongside the police to verify the identities of the deceased in order to begin providing them with necessary support,” he said.

Enquiries and details of RAF’s services following the car crash and other motor vehicle accidents can be obtained through our Call Centre on 0860 23 55 23 between 07h45 to 18h00 from Monday to Friday. Claimants can be assisted in any of the 11 official languages.

Alternatively, accident survivors or families of the deceased can receive further support from RAF’s Mpumalanga Customer Service Centre at Canary Walk Mall, Shop No. 11, 8 Bester Street, Nelspruit.

The Fund is also easily accessible at 11 Hospital Service Centres situated throughout the province: Standerton Hospital; Evander Hospital; Witbank Hospital; Rob Ferreira Hospital; Tonga Hospital; Themba Hospital; Mapulaneng Hospital; Ermelo Hospital ; Piet Retief Hospital; Mmametlhake Hospital and Kwa-Mhlanga hospital
