Embrace who you are during this month

MBOMBELA-September is one of the most important months for human beings.

All citizens across the spectrum are celebrating their culture and heritage.
Well known cultural expert, Dr Mafika Lubisi, said people must embrace who they are and be proud of their roots.He called upon young people to use this month to conduct an introspection of themselves and celebrate their identity and stop being ashamed of their roots or culture.

“In a nutshell, this month we are celebrating our Africaness,we are celebrating our identity. It’s a shame to see our new generation missing the point about the meaning of the Heritage month. They are attracted to western life,” he said.

Lubisi added that going forward to ensure that this month doesn’t lose its meaning, “it’s everybody’s business to be hands on, including the society at large, to teach the new generation about their identity so that they don’t completely lose their identity and values of humanity.”

He added that heritage month plays a vital role as it not only reminds us about our culture, but it also assists in instilling dignity and respect.
“As the heritage month has already started, let’s look back and embrace where we’re coming from as we celebrate our heritage as a province,” he concluded.
