Residents feel the effects of a go slow

Workers are alleged to be on a go-slow and residents can feel the heat

BARBERTON – Residents have started to feel the negative impact of the go-slow by municipal workers of the City of Mbombela Local Municipality.
Residents are struggling to get good service from the Umjindi sub-region. Refuse has not been collected. They also complain about leaking water metres, but nobody answers the phone.

“Since the workers embarked on a strike, things are not going well in terms rendering good service. The garbage collectors are not collecting refuse and this will increase illegal dumping sites which is becoming problematic,” she said.

The spokesperson for the municipality, Mr Joseph Ngala said they are not aware of the go-slow and appealed to workers to do their job properly.

“We are going to investigate this matter as we were not aware that residents are struggling to get some of the services that are rendered by our municipality. Not so long ago, we obtained a court interdict against the employees, as well as individual employees from committing any act which is prejudicial to the municipality during the illegal unprotected strike. Even those who are on a go-slow what they are doing is unacceptable because we agreed that all employees must go back to work,” he explained.
