Mpumalanga ANC MP dies in car accident

Member of Parliament from the Nkomazi Sub-Region serving in the Basic Education portfolio committee, Timothy 'TZ' Khoza was killed in an accident in Paarl this morning.

The fatal accident occurred when the vehicle four MPs were travelling in collided with a minibus taxi leaving three people injured while on their way to an oversight visit to schools.

The Office of the ANC Chief Whip issued a statement conveying condolences and extending wishes to those recovering in hospital. Nomalungelo Gina of the ANC, Ian Ollis of the DA, and Cynthia Majeke of the UDM, were seriously but are in a stable condition.

The statement reads, ”This happens a few days after we lost another ANC MP over the weekend . We are deeply saddened by this loss as it occurred during an oversight visit in service of the people of South Africa. We wish those in hospital a speedy recovery. This is indeed a very painful time for the ANC Parliamentary Caucus.”

The Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga released a statement saying she is “devastated” by the news and expressed her shock and sadness at the passing of the MP, “whom she knows well and has worked with in Parliament for a number of years.” She wished those in hospital a speedy recovery and said she would be monitoring their progress closely.
