City of Mbombela Municipality employees arrested

More than 21 people believed to be members of the striking employees of the City of Mbombela Municipality have been arrested on Wednesday.

The employees went on the rampage and spilled all sorts of garbage materials on the streets of the town after failing to meet with the acting Municipal manager, Neil Diamond to raise their concerns.
The unprotected strike was on its second day and employees are not showing any means of stopping until their demands are attended to.Some of the things they are complaining about include issues of salary increase following the amalgamation of the Umjndi local municipality together with Mbombela, poor working conditions and proper job placements, just to mention a few.

Mbombela police spokesman, Dawie Pretorius said cases of causing public violence were opened.
“The 21 arrested are currently kept at the police cells and will be making their first court appearance at the Mbombela magistrate’s court on Thursday morning,” he said. Pretorius added by saying that police will continue to do their job and arrest all those breaking the law.
The situation remains tense around the city as dust bins and garbage materials are spilled all over the streets of the town.
