Police rescue deputy minister from angry students

Police fired rubber bullets and teargas to disperse protesting students.

BUSHBUCKRIDGE – Chaos erupted at Mapulaneng Tvet college immediately after the deputy minister of higher education and training, Mduduzi Manana addressed thousands of learners from schools around the area on the importance of Tvet colleges.

The students demanded to speak to the minister on issues affecting the college. Manana told them that he was at the college to introduce the Tvet month to learners and could only address students if they behave appropriately.

Manana was escorted by police.

The police returned after a while, but were met with students who started throwing stones at them.

In retaliation, they fired rubber bullets and teargas to disperse the crowd.
