SANParks wage strike continues

Workers are demanding a 7.7% increment across the board while SANParks has only offered 7.1%.

SANParks staff will continue their strike on today after rejecting the employer’s wage increase offer, a trade union official said on Wednesday.The Health and Other Service Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (Hospersa) says that their members claim that SANParks has not attempted to continue negotiations after talks deadlocked earlier this week.

The union’s secretary, Joel Desfontaines says that demonstrations will continue until their demands are met.
“We asked them to come back to us so we can sit and see if we can finalise the process, but due to the fact that we haven’t heard from them, the strike will continue this morning,” he stated.

SANParks manages all 19 of the country’s national parks. Tourists can still visit them, but can expect booking or gate delays. Other services like bush walks might also not be on offer.
On Monday, SANParks said it would delay taking bookings for 2018 by a week, until August 1, due to the strike.
