Young people send a message through music

BARBERTON – Slowly but surely ,June 16 is losing its meaning with the new generation as many of them turned it into a day of partying at taverns,gallivanting and drinking excessively.
This newspaper learnt that young people from various places from this township including Elukwatini and Nhlazatje are eager to restore dignity of the day through music that speaks about the Soweto Uprising.

On Saturday the youth showcased their talent during the June 16, music concert held at Cathyville hall hosted by Vukasizwe Music Academy.
The aim of the concert was to unearth talent of young people and also to remind the new generation that is not too late to follow in the footsteps on the youth of 1976.
Speaking to Mpumalanga News, the head of the music department, Isaac Molelekwa said it’s about time for the new generation to start following the footsteps of the fallen heroes.
“We always host this concert during youth month, is where we recognise the role of the youth in the liberation of the country from the apartheid era. Even the songs speak about the history of the Soweto Uprising which we believe that it sent the message clearly to the people as much as I believe that music is a powerful tool that unites people and sends a clear message to people,” said Molelekwa.
