Robbers nabbed for robbing tobacco vehicle and other charges

The trio, Siyanda Hlatshwayo (29), Kgopotso Shube (23) and Sipho Mokoena (30), appeared at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court yesterday and were remanded in custody.

NELSPRUIT – A joint operation between Crime Intelligence and the Tactical Response Team (TRT) in search of suspects who are believed to be responsible for robbing British American Tobacco vehicles around Hazyview, led to the arrest of 11 suspects aged between 20 and 38.

According to the police, three of them were arrested on Friday around Nelspruit after police followed information about their whereabouts and were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The remaining eight suspects were nabbed Kabokweni, one in Pienaar, another in Masoyi and Hazyview in the early hours of this morning. Police managed to recover three assault rifles including an AK47, two pistols and dagga,” said the police.

They will appear in Kabokweni, Kanyamazane, Masoyi and Hazyview Courts, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms, armed robberies and possession of dagga. In addition, they will appear at the Hazyview Magistrate’s Court on allegations of robbing the British American Tobacco vehicles.

“A profiling of the miscreants is underway and there is a possibility of more charges to be added against them,” added the police.
