After the intervention of local taxi associations and drivers who demanded the roads to be opened for them to work, as well as promises from community leaders and municipal workers to fix water pipes from Kabokweni side to Nkohlakalo, the road was finally opened.
10:00 – A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, says they receive water once a week from their taps. They say they are tired of standing in long queues to the get water from the only borehole in the area. “One has to get up as early as 03:00 to wait in the long queues,” says a resident.
Kabokweni police spokesperson, Capt Shirley Ngomane says attempts to loot foreign nationals’ shops were made, but police responded promptly to avert the move.
The protesters have been moved from Kabokweni and they are currently assembling in another section of the township.
The road is closed at Nkohlakalo, eTrue Colours and Maphakama. The main road from Manyeveni side to Kabokweni is also closed.
