Five motorists arrested for reckless driving in Mpumalanga

One was arrested driving at 219km/h on 120 km/h zone at Alkmar on the N4 toll road

Five motorists arrested for exceeding speed limits on the roads of the province.

They were all charged with reckless driving.

Amongst them is a leader from a well known private school in Mbombela who was caught driving at 182km/h on a 120km/h zone.

The third driver was arrested on Monday where he was caught driving at 168km/h on a 100km/h zone.

A female driver was also caught driving at 167km/ h on a 100kkm zone on the N4 Alkmar road.

The fifth driver was caught driving at 168km/h at 120km/h zone at around 07h46 on Tuesday morning on the Alkmar N4 toll road .

Some of them had already appeared in local courts where they were given bail and some will appear before the end of the week.

The MEC for community safety,security and liaison, Mr Petros Ngomane applauded traffic officers for the arrests and called on motorists to obey the rules of the road at all times.

He emphasised that law enforcers will continue to show no mercy to those who break the rules of the road and endanger other people’s lives on the roads of the province.

He says traffic rules should be observed by all road users including pedestrians in order to ensure that road crashes are drastically reduced in the province.
