Tourism Indaba is an eye opener

Young local business people aim high

MBOMBELA – Tourism Indaba that was recently held in Durban was not just a tour, but an eye opener to local business people in the province.
These were the words of the business people that were voiced out at the legislature during the police budget speech of the MEC for Culture, Sports and Recreation, Ms Norah Mabena.
This publication interacted with different people who were offered an opportunity by the department to be part of the Indaba as Mr Deon Mahlangu, the owner of Deon Arts Gallery shared his experience thus: “I have realized that the Indaba is not just an ordinary tour as people may think, but an eye opener to us because we learnt a lot of things like how to take your brand to another level.

I even managed to get an opportunity to market my own hand work,”
Mahlangu says he made a lot of money as per day he was making R7 000.

”Business was booming and most of the people who bought my stuff were from Botswana and a majority of them wanted portraits,” he said.

Ms Thandanani Mndwae from Cambels Accessories encouraged young people who are gifted in arts not to undermine their talent.
“Since we are faced with a problem of unemployment in the country, young people must not undermine their God-given talent. With the little that you have, you can make a difference,” said Mndawe.
