A Liquor traders’ workshop aimed to lecture traders to work within the boundaries of the law is set to place today in the Schoemansdal Community Hall.
This follows two other similar workshops which were previously held in the Mbombela and Steve Tshwete local municipalities.
Economic development and tourism MEC, Mr Eric Kholwane, who was a guest speaker at a workshop in Middelburg last week, called on officials to treat all applications equally and encouraged the community to report corruption.

Among the issues raised were noise pollution which often affected the well-being of residents near those establishments and littering. Tavern owners were also urged to take responsibility to ensure their patrons do not litter or obstruct traffic.
Illegal alcohol traders warned
It was alleged that certain establishments remained open after the normal trading hours, which leads to the public drinking alcohol until the early hours of the morning.
Other issues that were under scrutiny included corruption allegedly committed by officials tasked with the processing of trading licenses.
Alcohol traders were also encouraged to trade responsibly, and to ensure they do not make alterations to their establishments without the relevant authorities’ knowledge as this may affect the validity of their trading licenses. Establishments were also urged to build adequate ablution facilities.
