Five marchers hit by rubber bullets

This is after the supporters took tyres and placed them at the entrance gate to the golf estate and the police fired fired at them as they fled the scene.

Five ANC youth league supporters were shot at with rubber bullets by the SAPS when the SANCO sanctioned march to the Nelspruit Golf Club got underway this morning.

The march was also supported by the EFF led by its provincial chairperson, Collen Sedibe.
There was chaos when a police officer told the youth league that he was calling off the march because of the tyres incident, but youth league provincial chairperson, Tim Mashele, provincial secretary, Pholoso Mbatsane and other officials negotiated with the officers to proceed to the gate.

When they got to the entrance, they were again prevented from entering until the arrival of the executive mayor of the City of Mbombela, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi who ordered that they should go through peacefully.

The leadership, Mashele Mbatsane took responsibility to take care of the situation. The memorandum was delivered by the youth to Mathonsi and golf club management and the EFF also delivered their own memorandum.

On both occasions, the parties were given seven days to respond to demand on ending racism at the club; increasing the number of black participants at the club and increasing their workers’salaries from a palrty R2 700 to R4 500.
