Eight undocumented Ethiopians arrested at Kaapmuiden

The foreign nationals each paid R150 to be driven to Johannesburg on Friday. The Hawks followed leads and apprehended them.

Members of the Hawks in Mpumalanga conducted a raid in Nelspruit CBD and led to 11 arrests on Friday.
Eight Ethiopians between 32-40 years of age were arrested at Kaapmuiden, N4.

The Hawks say the suspects were picked up at a Komatipoort filling station and headed to Johannesburg. “During the interviews with the driver, he alleged that he was paid R150 per person to transport them to Johannesburg. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with Aiding and Abetting under Immigration Act 13/2003,” says the Hawks.
The driver was also arrested and charged with Aiding and Abetting under the immigration Act 13/2003. His Hilux bakkie with registration DW 94 GZ GP was seized. The men will appear before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court today.
