Buscor deny rumours of wage strike in Mbombela

Commuters are still on the dark on whether they will have transport available next week or not as bus drivers are threatening to go on strike.

MBOMBELA – Buscor’ s spokesperson Mr Vuyani Ndlovu denied allegations that Buscor drivers might embark on a wage increase strike from next week Monday.

“That’s not true. The true version is that negotiations are still on and we will know by Friday late. More information will be out on Monday,” says Ndlovu.

Ndlovu confirmed that commuters were advised to only buy weekly tickets

“This is done as a precautionary measure, hence we are only selling weekly tickets so that we do not inconvenience our passengers should union representatives and the employer not reach a mutual agreement on the negotiations table,” he said.

He urged commuters who had already purchased their monthly tickets to return them at the bus terminals where they purchased them.

“They should bring them back for refunds so that they can purchase the weekly ones. In case one is working on Saturday and Sunday and he or she had a 26 days ticket for March, she or he will not have to pay in a bus on Saturday and Sunday but will show the driver the slip and the ticket,” he said.

Refunds for monthly tickets will be done from March 31 until April 7.
Negotiations between three unions representing the drivers and the employer still continue. The unions initially demanded a 30 percent wage increase which they later reduced to 15 percent while the employer only offered a seven per cent rise supposedly for a period of three years.
