Tourism alive with opportunities

At the Alive Training Centre we believe in a qualification that is a combination of knowledge, skills, experience and reflection upon experience.

MALALANE – The Alive Training Centre is home to a tailor-made tourism and hospitality programme that ensures the first step in your career is a good one. The centre is situated on the southern edge of the KNP.

The centre’s programme directly addresses the industry’s needs by providing fully rounded, multiskilled employees who are suitably equipped to cope with the ever-changing tourism industry. The benefit of successfully exiting the programme as an all-round individual is that you will be far more employable.

The school also offers meals to registered learners.

Alive! in Tourism believes in a qualification that is a combination of knowledge, skills, experience and reflection upon experience. Hence it includes theory, practical work and on-the-job training to give students workplace experience throughout their stay.

The contact sessions and practical work are offered on a rotational basis. With over 25 years’ experience in tourism, teaching and practically working in the industry, the CEO, Joleen du Plessis, created the programme to offer the right knowledge and skills to students.

The CATHSSETA (SETA for Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, Sport) accreditation is the rubber stamp on the course’s quality. Upon completion, graduates would have acquired the essential knowledge, skills and the workplace experience at a fully functioning establishment, qualifying in the most-comprehensive cluster of tourism and hospitality skills.

It comprises qualifications such as table attendant, bar attendant, room attendant, laundry assistant, assistant chef, assistant housekeeper, receptionist, nature-site guide, culture-site guide and effective business writer.

Only 10 students are accommodated per intake in order to give them the needed individual attention. The cost of the programme is R90 000 per learner which covers tuition, practical work, meals, accommodation, uniforms and a badge. This course offers students an opportunity to take their qualifications to a higher level, and enables them to enter a managerial position in the industry.

It involves intensive training over a six-month period, and successful candidates will receive the National Certificates NQF level 2. An event-management qualification and customer-service programme (NQF level 4) will also be offered.

The intakes of the programme is January 15 and July 15. The centre can be contacted on 013-790-4214 or 082-779-2153, or visit their website.
