Residents arrest bogus Eskom employees
Upon arrival, they discovered that the duo helped themselves to groceries and a cell phone before fleeing the scene.
BALFOUR – Two men aged 39 and 44 robbed a 77-year-old man at his Siyathemba home yesterday. The pair pretended to be Eskom employees when they fiddled with the elder’s metre box.
According to police, they demanded R500, however, the elder had no money and they threatened to remove the metre box. Instead, the duo helped themselves to groceries and a cell phone and fled the scene.
“The elderly man went to his neighbours to seek assistance and they accompanied him back to his house,” said the police.

Police and members of the community were alerted and the pair were later arrested by residents at 16:00.
“The suspects are facing a charge of house robbery and their profiling is underway.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, applauds the Balfour community members for arresting and handing the suspects to the police without taking the law into their own hands. He also warns the community to be attentive and not to fall victims of scams such as this,” police added.
