Bushbuckridge roads riddled by potholes

The roads have extremely large potholes which the government have ignored.

BUSHBUCKRIDGE – Road from Acornhoek to Greater Manyeleti and Thulamahashe to Cottondale and several other roads are in an appalling condition.
Bushbuckridge Local Municipality’s Aubrey Mnisi said the road in question is the responsibility of the department of public works, roads and transport.
“Including the road from Dwarsloop to Thulamahashe as well as from Thulamahashe to Cottondale,” said Mnisi.


Members of the community and motorists took to social media to voice out their plight.

The Mpumalanga department of Public Works, Roads and Transport said it is aware of the condition of several roads and many other roads in different parts of the province.
“The Department is going to reseal the badly damaged sections of the road as an immediate intervention. We will begin with design for the rehabilitation (reconstruction) of the road in 2017/18 as a long-term intervention,” said the department.
The department’s Regional Director, Mandla Mashele said there are two plans to stabilise the roads.

“There is going to be an extensive sectional reseal that is going to take place. A full rehabilitation of roads from Acornhoek to Greater Manyeleti and Thulamahashe from Cottondale is underway,” said Mashele.
He added by saying a road network assessment and design was done which looks at the roads in Bushbuckridge.
“The rehabilitation will start in two weeks. The department will also upgrade gravel roads to tar roads,” he added.
