Learner stabs teacher, classmates with sharp object

Older learners at the only school in Msholozi allegedly stabbed teachers and learners with metal compasses from mathematics sets.

MSHOLOZI –  Mpumalanga News learned about the awful behaviour at the school, where certain older boys allegedly stuck younger ones with compasses and pins.

A teacher from the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said her colleague who was busy writing on the chalkboard was apparently hit with a sharp object, injuring her on her upper body. This took place last week Thursday after certain boys pricked a number of learners while the teacher was writing on the chalkboard.

“She was disturbed by the learners making a noise, and when she turned back to ask what happened, the sharp object was thrown at her,” she said.

A member of the school governing body, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being victimised by parents, confirmed that there were troublesome boys in the school who even brought pornographic videos which were allegedly shown to younger learners at school. He alleged that the unruliness might even be a result of the heat in the mobile classrooms, and called on the department to quicken its preparations for building them a proper school.

Chairperson of the school governing body, Mr Moses Mathe, confirmed that a female teacher was stabbed last week Thursday. “We received complaints from the teacher that there is a boy who bullied other kids and even stabbed her last week. We will engage with the principal and the boy’s parents to see to it that this doesn’t happen again,” he said.

Mr Peter Moreku, principal of the school, says these were minor issues between learners and teachers which were being handled by the school. No criminal case was opened with the police.

W/O Cynthia Mbokodo, spokesperson of White River Police, says the local police station will be embarking on unannounced school visits to search learners for any dangerous weapons to ensure the safety of learners and children at school. “We will be going to Boschrand soon.

We have been to Lwaleng Primary School and Metropolitan College and so far we hadn’t recovered any dangerous weapons from those kids,” she said.
