MIDDLEBURG- MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the family of a 13-year-old learner who was allegedly paralyzed after being beaten by his school principal.
Mhaule assured Sphamandla Choma’s family that thorough investigations into the matter were conducted and proper steps were to be taken in the matter.
“I have received a preliminary report from the school, but there is a need to strengthen the report so that there are no loopholes in it. We have instituted an independent body from other districts to investigate the matter further,” she said.
She added that the principal was suspended from his school so that he does not interfere with investigations.
Mhaule and her team also visited the Manyano Primary School learner in his hospital bed at Emalahleni General Hospital. Mhaule and her team also asked God to heal the boy. He was also encouraged never to lose hope.
