Umlalati keeps on shining

The area commissioner, Marubini Netshivhazwaulu congratulated educators and offenders on their achievements and vowed to continue supporting them.

MBOMBELA – The Department of Education in Ehlanzeni district held a matric awards ceremony on Wednesday to acknowledge schools, learners and educators who performed well last year.

Among others that came out top was Umlalati Learning Centre (Town youth correctional centre) that produced a 100 per cent pass rate last year, scooping numerous awards.

The centre received position four in the district out of more than 150 schools.
They received two certificates and two trophies. Management also obtained third position and received a bronze medal.

The area commissioner, Marubini Netshivhazwaulu congratulated educators and offenders on their achievements and vowed to continue supporting them.

“Education plays a central role in rehabilitation; therefore we will continue to invest in it.
It is my wish that every offender who is admitted to our centre is literate. They must be able to read and write,” he said.
Umlalati learning centre was also recognised by the National Department of Correctional Services for an outstanding performance.
