Accident claims 6 lives

Five of those who died were occupants of the sedan including two children.

Six people were killed when two vehicles, a taxi and sedan (BMW) collided head on, on Friday morning.

The crash occurred on the R23 road between Perdekop and Standerton.

The taxi was travelling from the direction of Volksrust to Standerton while the sedan was from the opposite direction.

Five of those who died were occupants of the sedan including two children. Three other children who were also occupants of the sedan survived with serious injuries.

The driver of the taxi who was alone in the vehicle also died.

Meanwhile, two people died in a sedan yesterday (22 December 2016) at about 19:00 on N4 split near Mataffin.

It is alleged that the sedan was making a U turn and a truck hit it on the side leaving the two occupants of the sedan dead.

Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane sends condolences to the families of the deceased and also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

He further calls on motorists to be cautious on the road. He says that traffic officers and police will deal with those who disobey the rules of the road.
