Police warn of increase in festive season rape

Majority of the victims are young girls ranging between 16 -19 years old.

KABOKWENI – Since the beginning of the festive season rape has been on the increase in this area and surroundings.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News the spokesperson of the local police Capt Sheryl Ngomane warned young people, especially girls, who will be gallivanting during the festive season to be careful of a group of man who are targeting young girls in taverns.

“We noted that during this time of the year rape is increasing and majority of the victims are young girls ranging between 16 -19 years old.
According to our investigation most of the incidents occurred at night outside taverns,”said Ngomane.

She went on and advised girls not to entertain strangers who will make an offer to buy drinks.”We need to face reality, there are men who like to offer to buy drinks for women and after they discovered that the woman is drunk they started to demand sex. Parents must also pay more attention to their children,” added Ngomane.
