ANC hosts thank you rally for supporters

The provincial ANC hosted a successful thank you rally at the Acornhoek TVET College Sports Ground on Saturday

ACORNHOEK – The event, which was attended by more than 10 000 ANC members and supporters, was addressed by the president, Mr Jacob Zuma and ANC provincial chairperson, Mr David Mabuza.

The more than 10 000 ANC members and supporters, who only came from the Bohlabela Region, represented a small fraction of the 102 645 people who had voted for the ANC in this region in the 2016 local government elections.

Provincial spokesperson, Ms Sasekani Manzini, said, “This rally was part of the ANC Provincial Executive Committee’s programme to thank voters for renewing our mandate in all the municipalities in the province during the local government elections.

“The programme was also part of reaffirming the ANC as the people’s organisation and the only parliament of the oppressed in South Africa, which should always be found where the toiling masses of our people are.

“That is why the president and the provincial chairperson used the rally to encourage our members and supporters to always defend the unity of the ANC and ensure that Mpumalanga remains its home.
“The ANC in the province is pleased with the conduct and general discipline of our members and supporters who attended. The event was well organised and incident-free.

“We thank the Regional Executive Committee in the Bohlabela Region, our volunteers and foot soldiers who ensured that we exceed our expected attendance numbered.

“Indeed, our people both young and old, in particular the youth, have once again proven that the ANC is their only political home and their hope of a better life and future is invested in the party. The overwhelming attendance by young people is extremely encouraging, because it challenges the false and dominant narrative that suggests the youth have abandoned the ANC and the party survives solely on the votes of senior citizens. It is also encouraging, because it signifies an organisation with a future in politics in the country, because the youth are the most reliable mirror image of the future.

“We extend a sincere thank you to our members and supporters for their attendance, because successful mass mobilisation is one of the pillars of the struggle which gives true meaning to our slogan “The ANC Lives! The ANC leads!” concluded Manzini.
