Bushbuckrdge radio host wins Kudu award

Ms Gladys Mathebula from Bushbuckridge Radio 88.4FM won the Environmental Media Award

The South African National Parks (SANParks) supported by Total SA and First National Bank (FNB) recognised deserving conservationists at their 12th annual SANParks Kudu Awards ceremony held at Gallagher Estates in Midrand recently.

Ms Gladys Mathebula from Bushbuckridge Radio 88.4 FM won the Environmental Media Award for Best Community Electronic Media/ Radio Journalist of the Year.

Mathebula consistently provided in-depth reporting on rhino poaching issues and created awareness in the local communities about the impact of rhino poaching on conservation and tourism.

Mr Fundisile Mketeni, SANParks CEO, said that the Kudu Awards recognises journalists such as Ms Mathebula for their vital contribution to the protection of the environment through the spoken word which reflects the media industry’s role to inform, educate and create awareness.

SANParks plays a significant role in the conservation of biodiversity and cultural heritage, and together with stakeholders such as the media we can continue to protect South Africa’s most valuable national assets,” he said.
