MBOMBELA- The National Student Fund Aid Scheme calls on all matric learners to apply for funding before the closing date, November 30.

NSFAS executive officer Mr Msulwa Daca said the scheme has so far received a very low number of students applying for the 2017 funding since the applications opened on August 1.

“We are concerned that the number of applications received from grade 12 learners is very low,” he said.

Daca explained that this year marks the first time for students to directly apply for NSFAS funding through NSFAS as part of the new student centred model fully implemented by the organisation.

“Previously students use to apply at universities and TVET colleges,” explains Daca.

MEC for the Department of Education in Mpumalanga, Ms Reginah Mhaule also urges learners to submit their application in time and wished the matriculates all the best of luck.

NSFAS has joined forces with Vodacom to avail its 81 ICT community centres around the country to assist learners with online applications.

Candidate wishing to apply for NSFAS funding for next year may submit their application online through the NSFAS website. Those who have no access to internet can make use of Vodacom centres as well NYDA youth development centres in the country.
