Clinic patients feel the pinch of drought

"I couldn't deal with this situation. My child wanted to use the toilet and they were closed due to a lack of water. Most of the patients ended up using the backyard of the clinic."

KABOKWENI – Patients at the local clinic felt the pinch of the drought last Wednesday, when they were not allowed to use the toilets due to the water shortage.

Mpumalanga News learned that some of the patients decided to return home without getting their chronic medication because they couldn’t manage to hold themselves when nature called.

One of the complainants, Ntombikayise Shiba, said that she arrived at the clinic around 06:30, and spent almost three hours waiting. When she needed to make use of a toilet, she discovered that they were closed.

“The doors were locked, so I approached one of the nurses to ask her to open the door for me as I wanted to relieve myself. She said I must make a plan because the toilets are closed, as they don’t have water to flush. I rushed to one of our church members’ house not far from the clinic and requested to use their toilet,” Shiba said.
