A different approach to bring hope

The campaign's objective is to raise funds for students who cannot afford to pay for their education.

MBOMBELA – Students from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) campus will launch a campaign, #FreeEducationWillFindUsInClass today.

Following the #FeesMustFall protests which saw students from various tertiary institutions around the country vandalising buildings and clashing with police,
Mr Thapelo Magagula and Ms Nosipho Banda have decided to take a different approach. Magagula, a second-year public-finance and accounting student, has mixed feelings about the implementation of free education at tertiary level.
“It is not fair that we are present academically, but financially we are excluded because we now have to suffer due our circumstances at home,” he said.

The campaign’s objective is to raise funds for students who cannot afford to pay for their education.
“Intervention from large corporations will be of assistance, so we are calling on CEOs and others who would like to see a change in this country to be a part of this,” he said.

Banda shared the same sentiments. “It is not wise to take part in these strikes because the very same people who trigger them, can afford to live their lifestyles and are able to attend private institutions while we, the underprivileged, are left to suffer with debt. These strikes should really fall,” said the first-year marketing student.
The launch will take place at the TUT campus from 12:00 to 13:00.
