Pregnant mother and son die in fire

A 28-year-old man who was allegedly inside the house, managed to escape and he sustained injuries and he has been admitted to Themba hospital.

BACK DOOR – A 28-year-old pregnant woman and her five-year-old son burnt to death on Saturday night.
Mpumalanga News learnt that the woman, who was eight months pregnant, and her son were sleeping at around 23:00 in their shack when it caught fire.

According to the neighbours, they heard a strange noise coming from the side of the shack and noticed the structure was in flames.
Spokesperson for the KaBokweni Police Station, Capt Shirley Ngomane, confirmed the incident.

“We received a call about this and when we arrived at the scene, the two were already dead. A 28-year-old man who was allegedly inside the house, managed to escape and he sustained injuries and he has been admitted to Themba hospital. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage and investigations are sill continuing,” said Ngomane.

She added that an enquiry into the origin of the fire is in progress.
