Blocked toilets are a social ill

When I got inside I felt like vomiting. It was full of faeces and I wondered how they coped with such a situation.

MSOGWABA – Community members have had enough of the stinking and dirty toilets at the Department of Social Development’s offices.
The stench is so strong that it affects visitors who wait at the reception area. The toilet bowls are full of faeces.

Mpumalanga News visited the offices last Friday and discovered that people who went to these offices were denied access to the toilets because they were blocked. The doors are locked.

One of the community members who laid a complaint, Ms Charity Nobela said, “What we are experiencing here is totally unacceptable. It’s stinking. How can you call this a public office? “It’s such a disgrace”.

She added that when she went to the toilets, she could not believe her eyes. “One of the employees told me not to use them because they were blocked, but I said I just wanted to pee. When I got inside I felt like vomiting. It was full of faeces and I wondered how they coped with such a situation,” Nobela said.

The spokesperson for the department, Mr Ronnie Masilela said, “We are aware of the problem. Two male toilets are being fixed due to blockages.

This is a normal occurrence in toilets, from time to time. We have also gathered that the problem did not start last year, as it is alleged. Any problem encountered last year would have been attended to then.”
