Young boy to have plastic surgery

The boy ran to the traditional initiation school and he developed complications after the traditional cut.

MBOMBELA – The Department of Health says the 12-year-old boy whose penis was injured during an initiation process in Bushbuckridge would now undergo plastic surgery.

Mr Dumisani Malamule, spokes person for the department, confirmed that the patient would go for plastic surgery this week.

“We have since found that three years ago the patient went to Rob Ferreira hospital for a medical circumcision, but it was discovered that there was a medical condition on his manhood, hence he was not circumcised. His parents were told to bring him back after two years for the medical condition to be attended to.

The boy ran to the traditional initiation school and he developed complications after the traditional cut,” he said.

Malamule added that long ago initiates would develop complications from initiation schools which are now very rare. “As the department, we deploy our medical teams to initiation schools to ensure that correct procedures are followed,” he said.

It was not known if the procedure was done at the time of going to press.
