Human trafficking is a problem

Mpumalanga News learnt that one of the shocking incidents of human trafficking was one of a heavily pregnant woman from Zwelisha who was kidnapped by a foreign national.

BARBERTON – Human trafficking is still a problem in the province.
It is allegedly believed that being close to the borders is a contributory factor that intensifies the crime.Recently local police embarked on an awareness campaign to teach people about human trafficking.

The spokesperson of the local police, Const Tutu Nkosi said so far they have interacted with community members at Verulam and learners from Mjindini Senior secondary school.

“We are focusing on sexual offences and human trafficking. We educate people to speak out when they are experiencing such things in society so that the law can take its course,” said Tutu.

Pregnant woman kidnapped

She dragged and found herself in KwaZulu-Natal where she was assaulted until she had a miscarriage. That was after her kidnappers discovered that she was pregnant and not fit to be escorted to another country where she was supposed to be a sex worker.
