Bergvlam ignites spirit of sharing with others

We plan to do monthly outreaches to different schools and we welcome sanitary-pad donations from anyone willing to support us," said Sammy Sengwayo.

MATAFFIN – A group of girls known as the Young Woman Sixteen Project, from Hoërskool Bergvlam, recently brought smiles to teenage girls from John Mdluli Primary School.

The group surprised the 16 learners with goody bags containing sanitary towels and a few cosmetics. This was the first outreach programme for the girls, who plan to lend a helping hand to less privileged girls from various local schools on a monthly basis.

“We plan to do monthly outreaches to different schools and we welcome sanitary-pad donations from anyone willing to support us,” said Sammy Sengwayo, a grade 11 pupil and founder of the group.

Pauline Thwala thanked the Bergvlam girls for their generosity. “This is a great initiative and we thank the pupils for the effort. What matters is the thought not the quantity, we are so happy that they remembered us,” she said.
