MBOMBELA – The newly appointed executive mayor for Ehlanzeni District Municipality,Cllr Jester Sidell is geared and ready to take the municipality to another level in terms of ensuring that the institution fulfils it’s mandate.

She is not a new kid on the block, as she has gained municipal experience as the former speaker of Mbombela Local Municipality.

Delivering her speech for the first time after her inauguration ceremony and swearing in of councillors, Sidell said she would strive to help local municipalities in her district to obtain clean audits every year.

“I believe that when women are given an opportunity to do something, nothing will stop them from making a difference in people’s lives. My priority is to put people first in everything we do as a municipality. As much as I believe that unity is very important, I will also strive to help our local municipalities to get clean audits.

“I’d like to salute the former mayor of the district, Mama Letta Shongwe. You have played a vital role in the municipality. Indeed you have left a mark and I promise not to disappoint. You used to tell me that a good leader produces another good leader and I will continue from where you left off. Working as a team with our councillors, we can achieve a lot and nothing can stop us,” she said.

During the ceremony, the municipality also introduced the new mayoral committee.

Mpumalanga News learned that the former mayor of Bushbuckridge municipality, Cllr Renias Khumalo is
now the speaker of the district, while Mr Terrence Shabangu has been re-elected as chief whip.

“It’s such an honour that this ceremony takes place in a month where we appreciate the role played by women in the country, it shows that they have fought a good fight. I noticed that the majority of our councillors are women,” said Sidell.
