DA voice their concerns on the new cabinet

Mashego should have been at the top of the premier’s list after he failed to implement the turnaround strategy for the department in order to improve the province’s health institutions.

MBOMBELA- The Democratic Alliance says Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza missed an opportunity to clean up the mess in the Health Department by failing to fire MEC Gillion Mashego during his cabinet reshuffling.

“Mashego should have been at the top of the premier’s list after he failed to implement the turnaround strategy for the department in order to improve the province’s health institutions.

The DA has been calling for the sacking of Mashego, because he has proven time and time again that he is not fit to lead this vital department.

The DA is also not convinced that the removal of MEC Vusi Shongwe from Safety to Agriculture was a clever move. Mabuza replaced Shongwe with his former nemesis, Pat Ngomane.

Ngomane has clearly been rewarded for turning his back on the Save ANC Mpumalanga group. This group has been calling for the removal of Mabuza as Chairperson of the ANC.

Ngomane made a u-turn and reconciled with Mabuza before the recent local government elections, and this is his reward and a strategy to bring back the ANC supporters who were part of the Save ANC Mpumalanga.

The DA does however welcome the appointment of former ANC youth league secretary, Sasekani Manzini, former Mayor of Chief Albert Luthuli local municipality, Busi Shiba, and regional chairperson of the ANC in Nkangala District, Speedy Mashilo.

The DA will monitor the newly appointed MEC’s closely to ensure that they deliver services to the people of Mpumalanga.
