ANC concerned about the election outcome

A target of no less than 90 per cent was set, the African National Congress setting itself up too high, as it only maintained 70,4 per cent.

MBOMBELA – The ANC in Mpumalanga may have received enormous voter support but the eight per cent decline from the 2011 elections is a concern.

According to provincial secretary, Mr Mandla Ndlovu, the ANC will conduct a comprehensive assessment following the local government elections last week.

He said, “We are at a stage where we need to reflect on our mistakes and look at the obstacles and issues raised by our supporters.

“We will continue with what we started with at the beginning of the election campaigns – engaging our people in the province.”

Ndlovu mentioned that teams were at work, doing research within the communities where the party lost the plot. “The people have spoken and it is evident that they have lost faith in the ANC.

People need services and we need to deliver because if we do not, our history will cause us to lose our supporters’ votes in the government elections,” Ndlovu explained.

A target of no less than 90 per cent was set, the party setting itself up too high, as it only maintained 70,4 per cent.
“We have decided not to celebrate, even though we have scored a victory, because we still need to deal with our biggest enemy – poverty. For as long as there are people who go to bed with an empty stomach, we have not yet done our best.
“We are less concerned with opposition parties, we want to prioritise our people’s needs,” said Ndlovu
