Three suspects appear in court for shooting traffic officer

The case was postponed to August 29, 2016 for formal bail application. All three suspects will remain in custody.

The Three suspects arrested for the murder of Mr Bongani Nkumba, who was a traffic officer appeared on Wednesday at Standerton Magistrate Court.

Nkumba was shot while on duty on the R23 road in Standerton. He had just finished another operation in Cillierd near Standerton and was on his way to join his colleagues in another operation of the R23 road when he a saw suspicious looking vehicle which he signalled to stop,” explained a media release.

The release continued to state that Nkumba did his routine check-ups on the vehicle with two occupants.

On his way to issue summons from his own car the occupants followed him and one of them fatally shot him.

Police pursued the suspects who were driving a vehicle with registration numbers from Lesotho.

The case was postponed to August 29, 2016 for formal bail application. All three suspects will remain in custody.
