Pupils experience life behind bars

"As parents we need to re-position ourselves and be good parents so that we can be able to raise children that will not cause trouble in the community,"

BARBERTON – Yesterday pupils from Fundinjobo, Phakani and Mtfuntini high school visited the local juvenile correctional facility to learn more about how crime pays.

The trip was part of the school safety campaign, introduce by the Department of Community, Safety, Security and Liaison in collaboration with the Department of Education.

The provincial commissioner Lt Gen Mondli Zuma urged parents to raise their children in a good manner.

“As parents we need to re-position ourselves and be good parents so that we can be able to raise children that will not cause trouble in the community,” he stated.

The visit was a clear eye opener. “I learnt that in life you must choose good friends and don’t compare yourself with other people like demanding expensive things from your parents.

“If they cannot afford it, you will steal and end up in jail and life is not easy behind bars,” said Ncobile Mbongwe from Mtfuntini Secondary School.
